Articles on The Freethinking Times are licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International.

That license gives you the right to share and republish our work — including in magazines, newsletters, blogs, archives, classroom materials, and academic papers — without asking permission first. In exchange you agree to four things.

The four rules

1. Attribution

Credit The Freethinking Times clearly, and link back to the original article URL at the top of the text. A line like “Originally published by The Freethinking Times on [date].” is ideal. Include the author’s byline.

2. No derivatives

Don’t edit the article beyond tiny relative fixes (“last Tuesday” → the date, “here in Paris” → “in Paris” if your readership is elsewhere). No cuts, no remixes, no translations repackaged as original work. If you need a condensed version or a translation, contact us and we’ll review it.

3. Non-commercial

You can’t sell our work, put it behind a paywall, or syndicate it into a commercial platform (Apple News, Google News Showcase, paid newsletters). Free republication on your own site, in a free newsletter, or in a non-commercial print publication is fine. A for-profit site whose model is advertising against other content is fine; one that monetizes our articles specifically is not.

4. Webmentions welcome

If your site can send webmentions, we’d love to hear from you. When you publish your repost or response, your site can POST to our endpoint and the mention shows up on the canonical article. This is how the decentralized web keeps track of itself — no platform, no account, just two websites talking.

How to grab an article

Most articles we intend for broad republication have a Republish this story section above the comments. Expand Grab the HTML, copy the textarea’s contents, and paste into your CMS’ HTML view. The grab-code includes the attribution paragraph, the article body with headings and links intact, and a canonical link back. Your CMS will apply its own typography on top.

If you want to republish an article that doesn’t show the grab surface, email us — most pieces are eligible; the flag just isn’t on by default.

Reciprocal conversation

We read and display webmentions from every republisher, reply, like, and repost we receive. We link back to you. This is a two-way street — republishing our work means your readers may end up on our site, and our readers may end up on yours.

Commercial license

Need to use The Freethinking Times work in a paid product, an educational anthology for sale, a broadcast, or a consulting deliverable? Commercial licenses are case-by-case, mostly affordable, and money goes straight into more reporting. Tell us what you have in mind and we’ll get back to you.
